A Boy, and a Dog

If you have ever had a pet, particularly a dog, you may know the unconditional love that a fury best friend offers. A good dog is devastated to see you leave, even when you've always come back, and they nearly pee themselves upon your every return. Yes, the love of a dog is unlike any other. But along with the fun comes the sad reality that a dog's life is much shorter than most people. The average dog only lives between 10 to 13 years, and while that may be enough time for lots of walks and games of fetch, it never feels like enough when the time comes to saying goodbye. Sometimes, I like to think that dogs are so loving and playful because they know that they have less time with us, and so they're just trying to make sure that they bring as much joy as they can before their time comes...this week, sadly, we have said goodbye to one of the greatest dogs to have ever lived, Mason. He was my first dog, a great dog, and the perfect example of when a great pet becomes a family member. Mason could tell when you were sad, and would drag his 80lb. body onto your lap to comfort you with kisses and snuggles. If he thought you were scared, he'd lick and jump around to try and make you laugh. He was the greatest listener you could ask for, and only spoke when he REALLY needed to pee!

Some dogs are pets, but some become family. Mason was family, and he will be missed.

R.I.P. Mason 7/4/12 - 1/22/23
