The New York Knicks announced today on Instagram that Ronnie Fieg will be the new, and inaugural, Creative Director for the Knicks. Ronnie is my favorite designer right now as the founder of Kith and is certainly a leader in the fashion industry. Additionally, the NBA debuted the 2022-23 City Edition jerseys yesterday, which Ronnie and the team at Kith designed for the team. Aside from that, they also lead the design of the new city edition court which will be debuted tonight against the Pistons.
From a fashion and cultural standpoint, Ronnie is a perfect fit for the Knicks. Born and raised in NYC, he understands both the history of the team as well as the fans and the spirit that embodies them. On top of that, having founded Kith in Brooklyn in 2011, Ronnie has been engulfed in the NYC fashion scene for the last 10+ years and will be able to tie that in to the Knicks and their creative efforts. The Knicks have long been disconnected from their
fans with many calling for changes in management and even ownership. I myself am not the biggest fan of the Dolans and their management style, but they may have won me over a bit with their most recent hire. My hope is that Ronnie can influence the culture of Knicks brass to better match that of their fans and bring our team back to glory.
You know what they say, look good feel good, feel good play good. Maybe a fresh look will inspire some confidence in this young team. I'm hopeful this season, and if nothing else I am happy with the progress in the front office. Though a uniform does not directly correlate to shooting percentage, it is much harder to tolerate a loss when your team also looks like sh*t. Even if we lose tonight, and however many nights to come, you'll definitely catch me rocking more Knicks jerseys with Ronnie a behind the designs.
