It's Called Soccer Now!!!

The USMNT won in exciting fashion today against a tough Iranian team that had hoped to be this years Cinderella story. To be honest, I am only really a soccer fan when the team is wearing red, white, and blue, but boy is it fun when they are good. Soccer is certainly more popular in other parts of the world, but it's always exciting when our boys have a pep in their step and go out onto the pitch with a little optimism. The US team came out hot today and fought to get themselves as many early scoring chances as possible. It seemed like a game of FIFA with the amount of attempts but it I wasn't sure if anything was going to get home...that was until our golden boy Christian Pulisic, sacrificed his body and chances at future children, for our country. He flew through the air like a bald eagle and scored a long over due goal not just for the US team, but also for freedom.
Now after that things got pretty weird. Pulisic was clearly injured and was limping up and down the field. We had another chance late in the 1st but Josh Sargent didn't expect Pulisic to be anywhere within shouting distance after his injury, and the team limped out of the half with a 1-0 lead. We looked to the second half with confidence but started off without Pulisic and began to sit on our heals, grasping to the 1 score advantage. As mentioned early I am no soccer buff, but I think it makes more sense to continue the strategy that worked as opposed to changing things up that aren't broken. On top of that, we maintain our lead through the leadership of our best players still on the field, only to see McKinnon out as the first sub and Sargent shortly thereafter. Maybe I'm wrong, but today our team favored conservative play in the second half and we always gave away our world cup dreams...
Thankfully our boys pulled it out with some strong defense and a stellar goalkeeping effort from my close personal friend, Matt Turner. OK, not close personal friends, but we played baseball together in like 5th or 6th grade, so that's cool. I'll be rooting for our team along with all the other fake soccer fans here in the US, and hope they can make things exciting in the next stage. We seem to have some solid talent this year, so with the right bounces we could be popping bottles of non-alcoholic champagne by the end of this!!!
