From street fairs in New York, to Paris fashion week, and back home to Brooklyn again, KidSuper has brought his unique style full of fun and color to the fashion industry since he started making T-shirts in his college dorm room. In 2020 or 2021, when I was just getting into fashion, my buddy Samuel Limatta, who is an awesome musical artist in his own right, was tapped by Colm Dillane (the legal name of KidSuper) to model for a collection he was doing at the time. It was there that I first saw KidSuper's designs and immediately began my journey down a colorful rabbit hole of his work.

I was new to streetwear outside of Nikes and New Era caps, and Colm's contemporary style was just the warm welcome I needed. When it comes to the fashion industry, I have felt an unwelcoming attitude at times. While that may just be a projection of my own lack of self-confidence in certain attire, but a new crowd of well dressed individuals can be intimidating to approach, let alone attempt to fit in with. So as I began to explore the ins and outs of my stylish new obsession, with more designers and brands than I knew what to do with, KidSuper was There to the Rescue with open arms clothed in his own fun-loving fits.

Aside from his clothes, KidSuper brings a loving, smiling face to an often stoic fashion landscape, from the interviews and videos he's done you can really feel the passion that's put into his work, and it's resulted in a lot of growth and continued success. His most recent collection SS23 PART 1, which just dropped Friday March 24th @ kidsuper.com, was inspired by some of his favorite fashion designers. A few of my favorite pieces from the collection were the "Strangers In The Night Blazer", the "Jazz Club Sweater", and the "Paintings Patched Jeans". And while they may be a bit out of my price range for now, I have thoroughly enjoyed admiring his work from afar, and look forward to the day where that will no longer be the case.

When he launched the line back in June 2024, KidSuper created a unique art auction / fashion show called "Breathing Life Into the Inanimate". It was a small intimate show, though I don't have a lot of experience for size comparison, where each outfit was modeled for roughly one minute, during which time an associated work of art was auctioned off live on stage. A portion of the proceeds from the auctions went towards foundations for young artists. The auctioneer was lovely, and both the clothes and the art brought excitement and joy to those in attendance. Not to spoil any surprises, as I'd encourage you to go watch the show for yourself, but there is an outfit at the end of the show that is so incredible it basically brings the art to life.

I appreciate KidSuper for his passion, his spirit, and of course his amazing work. He helped spark my initial intrigue into fashion and has continued to fuel my curiosity through his colorful challenges to the status quo. I know his success will continue and look forward to his future launches, as well as those that he will undoubtedly inspire from others. So even if you're not styling yourself for the runway, don't forget to have fun, and dress like a kid every once in a while!
