With You is Where I Side

In August of 2020, while Covid was at its peak and our country reeled from ongoing racial and political turbulence, I found myself stranded in the Smoky Mountains of Eastern Tennessee taking care of my father, who was in a tough battle with the corona virus himself. He was anchored to his bed for nearly 10 days, hardly able to eat or even get up to use the bathroom, and I was struggling mentally. The whole purpose of the visit was to play golf for my birthday, but it quickly turned into me mowing the lawn several times and having my first beer of the day at 11:00am. After about a week, my fiance became worrisome of my new routine, and she decided to surprise me by sending me PlayStation, talk about a keeper! With everything going on it was the perfect distraction, but more than anything it made me realize just how amazing she was, and is, and how lucky I am to have someone on my side that is looking out for me. I wrote this for her so that she would know that no matter what, I always have her back, just like she has mine.
With You is Where I Side
In a world full of masks
Hiding red and blue faces
With an ongoing battle amongst the races
Separated time and time again
Distances farther and farther
Durations that never seem to end
But I’ll always come back
And I’ll be by your side
Damn the masks and the red and blue faces
With you is where I side
